Responsive Web Design: Loom Decor

Loom Decor / Responsive Design with Custom Configurator

Ordering custom interior design products has traditionally been handled entirely offline, resulting in time-consuming paperwork and logistics. In addition, customers view fabric swatches for draperies, bedding, or other items without knowing how the finished product will look in their home.

Loom Décor contacted my firm to create a simple online ordering and visualization system to increase their competitive edge in the ever-growing custom eCommerce industry.

I worked closely with Loom Décor's CEO Ashley Gensler and a development team to implement an eCommerce site using Magento that allows customers to order highly customized products online, as well as visualize the finished products through a configurator. We needed to create a simple, easy to follow flow for customers to design and order window treatments, bedding, pillows, and more in hundreds of high-end fabrics. I worked wth my team to design a custom configurator that smoothly leads the customer through the customization process in a step-by-step visual way.

When creating the design for the responsive site, I research tons of direct to consumer eCommerce sites for user flow ideas and looked at a wealth of interior design and fashion sites for design inspiration. I presented two concepts for the homepage and configurator to the client who gave me some great feedback that led me to create the final design. The site is still being completed by development but you can see how it visually turned out below.

CONCEPT A

This version takes a clean, airy, bright approach to the redesign. In this design, photography is key with a push towards choosing imagery/text in complimentary navy and coral tones. Header is simplified, linear and sophisticated with minimal icon design. Colors are overall muted to really highlight the wonderful fabrics in the imagery and call attention to conversion points like "Add to Cart" buttons in the coral. The content area shows inspirational imagery and concepts to inspire the user to get excited to explore the product and give her ideas on design and styling, almost like a mini Pinterest.

CONCEPT B

This version takes a denser, classic, crisp approach to the redesign. It utilizes white and charcoal to add some depth to the page and really make the chartreuse CTAs pop. The use of both serif and sans serif fonts adds a traditional edge to complement the modernity of the design. The header is even more simple and streamlined than Concept A, fewer icons and less playful.

FINAL DESIGN

The final design leans more towards Concept A with the bright colors and playfulness but incorporates elements from Concept B as well. The full site can be viewed here: www.loomdecor.com
